I felt like such a schmuck as I cried all the way through this episode. I agree that there may have been a bit too much funeral, but it was a tremendous send off for Terry Bellefleur/Todd Lowe. I couldn’t help but wonder how he was feeling as he watched the episode.
My heart hurt for Eric. And Pam.
I was gad to see the return of Alcide. I just couldn’t take him seriously as the growling pack master. It bored me.
Sookie does seem as though she has come into her own and has become a more complete, believable character than she has been in the last two seasons. That said, I thought her announcement that she is a telepath was flat and uninteresting. I was also curious at the absolute lack of reaction by anyone in the assembled crowd. I don’t believe that she will end up with Warlow. Bill is still in her future.
I was thrilled at the small spotlight given to Big John. My tears flowed faster at his touching tribute to Terry.
Arlene. What a wonderful treatment of her character. Carrie Preston was masterful in her role as the grieving, dignified widow. It was great to see “her kids” again. Seeing Mikey as still a baby reminds us that not all that much time has passed in Bon Temps.
Maxine Fortenberry, Jane Bodehouse, Lettie May, the Reverend Daniels, it was great to see them again. Maxine never changes and I love her for that. You always know what to expect from her character.
Bill. It is said that only those you love have the power to hurt you. Bill has certainly been the proof of that the last two seasons as I have been horrified and dismayed at the subjugation of Bill’s basic goodness to greedy ambition. The sacrifice of his blood is, perhaps the first step in cleaning up the horrific mess for which he is largely responsible.
A debt of thanks is owed to Alan Ball for stepping aside and letting someone else take the reigns. I think he was too close to the project to see that it had begun to fall off the rails. Brian Buckner has very wisely begun to move the show back to the settings and characters with which we fell in love. If you’d asked me at the end of last season, I would have said that the show was too far gone to save, but BB and his writing staff have changed my mind. While last night felt like the beginning of the end, his leadership has made this show and it’s characters something we can love again. Thank you, Bucky.

Please accept my kudos too Bucky!!!! This episode was stellar. I lol’d when Bill “dropped fang” at the sight of Sookie biting her wrist.(Despite all that has occurred,he loves her like crazy.) I am thrilled my fav show is back on track but majorly bummed it’s almost over for the season. I think waiting will suck more than ever.

I love the pictures that have been posted from episode 9, especially the one of Bill being fed upon. Given our knowledge of Steve’s puckish sense of humor, I would have loved to be a ‘fly on the wall’ in the few seconds preceding that scene. I have no doubt that the quips were flying fast and furious.
