Yup, you read that right! It’s looking iffy whether “The Barrens” will receive a theatrical release, as it was just reported by Hi Def Disc News that the title will be available on Blu-Ray in October 2012 and is available for pre-order at Amazon. Per the press release:
The 2012 Darren Lynn Bousman written & directed film “The Barrens” starring Stephen Moyer and Mia Kirshner is coming to Blu-ray Disc on October 9th via Anchor Bay (a Starz company) according to an early alert to retailers. Most know Darren Lynn Bousman for also directing the films “Saw II” (2005), “Saw III” (2006), “Saw IV” (2007), “Repo! The Genetic Opera” (2008), the remake of “Mother’s Day” (2010) and “11-11-11” (2011). Tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed but stay tuned. The title is already available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon with a $20.99 price tag.
That’s too bad! I was really hoping to see it in a theater

I just don’t get Hollywood sometimes… they’ll put 800 Saw movies in theaters for wide release… but something people actually want to see… Boo!! Here’s hoping something will change and it will still show up in theaters!

I know, this really sucks. But typically when they announce the dvd pre-order, it ain’t hitting the theaters! Boo!
It’s a shame, because I think this is the type of film that is meant to be seen in a dark theater on the big screen.

Yeah it sucks but at least it isn’t sitting on a shelf waiting for something,if anything to ever happen.

Im choked that its not going to have a theatrical release.

Has everyone signed the petition on facebook for a theatrical release of “The Barrens?”
There’s still a chance it could go to theater/dvd/youtube same-day release.
I am holding out hope that we may still get it in theaters, but either way, I’m getting the dvd.
