Stephen Moyer Took a Big Risk with The Barrens

I know most of you have seen The Barrens by now and maybe you’re even getting a tad tired of us posting just about everything we find on it that has to do with Steve. Well, are you up for one more? Once again, we have Darren Lynn Bousman praising Steve for not just a job well done, but for the man he is.

Steve and Darren

Dread Central: Talk about casting Stephen Moyer as your lead; it was definitely ‘against type’ in comparison to his work on “True Blood” which I enjoyed.

Darren Lynn Bousman: Yeah, Stephen was great; the whole movie rests on his shoulders and he just kicks ass. I have tremendous respect for this guy; he always wanted to be on set as much as humanly possible and it wasn’t necessarily an ‘easy’ set to be on considering our location. But I think that that to me is what makes for a great actor- someone who was going to be there not only for the job, but as a team player in this whole process.

The range of emotions that he has to go through in 90 minutes is astounding and I think his work here really showed his acting chops off. He was totally down for anything and he took a big risk with this movie. I think that he saw it as a chance to do more than he gets to do on “True Blood”- being a reserved vampire- and show off that he does have this extreme emotional range when he’s got the right material.

    1. It is really no wonder that Darren Bousman and Steve get along so well. They are both generous, talented men. Thank you, Darren for being so thoughtful in your praise of Steve. You have given a wider voice to what his fans have known all along.

    2. Yeah, I think Darren has a huge man-crush.

So when can we lose the Barrens picture on the top of the homepage?

Yes…. I’m crabby. I haven’t slept in more than 36 hours and I need some serious caffiene infusion, which can’t happen because I broke my coffee pot.

I need to go to Wally World to buy a new pot, but I have to take a shower first, but I can’t take a shower if I haven’t had any coffee or I could like fall and shit like that.

Some days life is just one big, vicious, bite-you-in-the-ass circle. I wonder how they made coffee before coffee makers?

      Cripes. *rolls eyes*

Great… just great. Now they’re fucking stuck there.

Can you OD if you just chew coffee beans? I’m thinking we may have an answer to that question shortly.

Oh and just kiddin’ about the top of the homepage.

      Kinda.

    3. So… I thought I’d try chewing one bean. I was thinking, “Why not?” It was kinda gross.

Then I thought, “Hey! I’ve seen chocolate covered coffee beans for sale!”

So I ate another bean and some chocolate chips.

      Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend it.

      Cripes. :(

    4. WW, you are having one bitch of a bad day. I’m not laughing AT you, but rather WITH you. I hope. Here’s hoping that you get a nap, your (brewed) coffee and your shower and that your day becomes vastly improved.

    5. WW…sorry about your day…it can only get better…hopefully!!

Never tired of anything to do with Stephen but Darren apparently didn’t see the last few episodes of TB…definitely not the reserved vampire anymore.

    6. Darren freely admits in the commentary on the DVD that he’s got a big man-crush on Stephen :)

But I think we all have known for a long time how fantastic and easy to like SM is… hence our unwavering fan loyalty :P

Hope your day gets better, WW!!

    7. Hey Tabby and Piper!

Thanks! I had to laugh because otherwise I couldn’t imagine how to make it through the day! LOL!

My neighbor lent me her ‘extra’ coffee maker (which I have come to believe is the only way to go for me from now on!)

I managed a shower without incident and after brushing my teeth three times, finally got the taste out of my mouth from the coffee bean/chocolate debacle and I’m feeling pretty good right about now.

I did slam into the doorway walking into my kitchen for more coffee but I’m not sure if it was an actual slam or a ricochet because of the vibration of my body from copious amounts of caffeine and no sleep.

      Either way… it’s gonna leave a mark.

      Cripes.

    8. I’ll deal with only one question of yours, WW. The Banner will come down after Oct. 18′th, which is the date our viewing is being held. Tickets can still be bought for it, even though I know the banner says otherwise. My mistake.

I think you need some sleep and quick fix for the caffeine overdose.

    9. No joke! :0

PS: I meant no disrespect to this fine site. :(

Hey, just curious… could you take the scene with King Bill and Katie and make it jiggle like the dancing and singing images? I know there was debate on was it… firmness once before?

      Just a thought. :D

    10. Hey WW, I hope you are feeling better.
May I suggest having some instant coffee in your cupboard? It could come in handy in a pinch.

I think what we keep seeing here is great mutual admiration between these two very talented men. Darren is very vocal about the talent and commitment of Stephen to this project as well as any he sets his mind to. And we know Stephen has alot of respect and confidence for Darren as well. Thats why Stephen took on this role.
I never tire of hearing anyone speak highly of Stephen. He is praiseworthy.

To those who are attending the Cherry Hill viewing, have a great time. The movie and most especially Stephens performance, are both intense and awesome.

And personally, I have enjoyed coming here to Simply Moyer and seeing the movie banner of The Barrens, with Stephen, so highlighted. The movie deserves to be promoted in every way possible.

    11. ww – I’m sorry for your un-caffinated state the other day. When you asked about making coffee, I remembered, many, many years ago…

My grandmother made coffee in one of those big, tall coffee pots you see on old westerns – enamel over steel. It was white. She put water and coffee grounds (from her coffee grinder) in the bottom, and when it boiled you could see it bubbling in the small glass bulb on top of the lid. After a few minutes(?)it was done. Then it sat for a few minutes. She would pour it through a strainer so we didn’t get coffee grounds in our cup. She usually put an egg shell in with the coffee grounds, to “smooth out the flavor” (don’t ask me…). It was strong, robust coffee – probably the best I’ve ever had.

    12. Wonderful words from Mr. Bousman, and in line with the compliments that Stephen gets from so many who work with him. He is the complete professional – dedicated to the whole project, not just his part.
Especially on a difficult shoot, which this one apparently was, this is the lead actor you want to have working with you – someone who is going to deliver an outstanding performance, and, while doing so, demonstrate understanding, support, and commitment to the film’s entirety.

      He is simply the best!
