Stephen Moyer Deserves Dad of the Year!

I wonder if Steve has a trophy on a shelf somewhere that sates: “DAD OF THE YEAR”. He certainly deserves one, as we’ve learned in the past what a great father he is from co-workers, friends and now his beautiful wife, Anna Paquin. From Michael Rothman of ABC News comes a sweet little interview with Steve and Anna. It’s always enjoyable to read a heartwarming family piece and though this one is short it fits the bill.

Anna Paquin admits it’s very convenient raising her 16-month-old twins Charlie and Poppy with a husband who has lots of experience with kids.

“All the jokes about the dads and the diapers, and them being useless, he’s not!” Paquin told ABC News about her husband and “True Blood” co-star Stephen Moyer.

“I like poo,” Moyer joked right back.

Moyer already has two grown children Billy, 13, and Lilac, 11, from before the couple married in 2010, so he added that the step-kids were a great “little starter” for the new mother.

“My kids have been with us a lot, so Anna already had a huge understanding of that, she’s very much part of their lives,” Moyer said.

Moyer and Paquin are really enjoying their new twins, they said, especially after they were born a few weeks premature in 2012.

“You just do what you have to do. We weren’t the only people who have gone through that situation,” Moyer said of the babies’ rough start. “There’s loads of other people we got very close to in a similar situation.”

The “Sound of Music Live” star added that the experience only brought his family closer together.

“It brings you together in a sense that you can’t not do it. You have to be there and do the best you can,” he said. “I don’t think there’s any right or wrong way of it going, you just do what you can at the time.”

Now, Paquin’s twins are doing great and even before they were born, the actress’s protective, mothering instincts were apparent on the set of her new film.

Moyer explained that when he visited the production for “Free Ride,” he noticed a “beautiful sense of the family unit.”

“Ava, who plays [Paquin’s] youngest daughter [Shell], she would sort of come over and just be next to Anna,” he said. “She becomes incredibly mothering of kids when they are on set.”

It’s “such a powerful story, I think a lot of people wanted to be part of it,” Paquin said of playing a mother who turns to dealing drugs while in search of a better life for her kids.

“Free Ride” is out in theaters today in New York, Los Angeles and Video on Demand, and stars Paquin, Drea de Matteo and Cam Gigandet.

  1. Caring, compassionate, doting Dad.

What more can be said about this beautiful man.

    Rocking post chicks.

  2. I completely agree Braz.

    Dad of the year!!!

    He gets my vote.

    :-)

  3. Raising childern takes two great parents , the mother has a gut feeling when it comes to their children and it just kicks in . Having a wonderful hubby helps a whole lot . I was one of the lucky ones also . Enjoy them babies , someday I might get grand kids lord knows I miss mine being kids .

  4. Another wonderful little interview. It’s great to hear them both talk about their kids. They truly seem to work wonderfully as a team in taking care of the babies, and Billy & Lilac.

Of course, from everything we’ve ever heard about them both, I can’t imagine things going any other way. While they might depend on Nannies at times (like most of the world depends on daycare or nannies) it seems very clear that they are hands on parents for everything, not just the fun stuff :)

  5. I’m with you, Jean, I miss my kids being kids.

  6. The sight of a man taking really good care of his children … few things are sexier:) and Stephen does it with joy and a positive attitude. Just a super man! ;)
    Lucky, lucky Anna! ^^

  7. Lovely little piece about out favorite couple.

Anna chose wisely when she married Stephen, for many reasons…not the least of which is his love of family.

Their devotion, their energy, their values…all add up to a couple who has their priorities straight.

And they’re hot and gorgeous too!

  8. What a nice article! It is so nice to see Hollywood couples so grounded and so still in love.

  9. Raising children does not require two great parents. There are a lot of single mothers and fathers doing a great job with their kids. But I find it interesting that everyone praises a man for DOING HIS JOB, for doing things any good father should do. Why does the man deserve more praise than a woman doing the same thing PLUS carrying a fetus, or two, around for nine months or so? Is it because our standards for fathers have fallen so low? Or is it a case of blind hero worship?

  10. @Sheryl…Hi! I don’t think it’s blind hero worship, although there’s certainly lots of love for this man, and we’re happy to pour it out here, on his site. I do think we single out good dads because there are SO MANY fathers who aren’t actively involved on a day-to-day basis. (I know a couple of them.) Those in high-profile fields often spend much more time and effort on themselves. They’re too self-absorbed to extend the energy to their spouse & kids. I’m old enough to remember the days when it was “normal” to have a dad who was only marginally involved with day-to-day family life.
Both of these parents make a concerted effort to be actively hands on with their children. The temporary move to NYC while Stephen was in rehearsals for TSOM is a case in point.
Yeah, there are more and more dads who do it right…we just happen to be all about Stephen Moyer here, LOL!

  11. Steve and Anna’s children hit the jackpot with having such two wonderful parents, but since we’re Simply Moyer we made Steve ‘Father of the Year’ and made it about him.

  12. What a sweet article on Steve and Anna and how they make their blended family work, plus what great parents they are. I will say it’s refreshing to whiteness how involved Steve is with his children, I only know a few men with the same zeal or commitment personally.
@Iamtrue2bill “Anna chose wisely when she married Stephen….” I agree with everything you say.
