Thank the gods Steve’s mom’s in town, as we can probably thank her for the bevy of Steve pics. This one was taken last week while the two of them were at a local farmers market.

I wonder if the babies are home. I totally respect their privacy, but would love just a little news about them. Does that make me awful?

It doesn’t make you awful, Tabby … unless of course, we’re all awful!
Comment by aemac — October 1, 2012 @ 9:49 am
I’m with Tabby on that one, folks. So, I guess I’m awful too.
Gran is obviously visiting to meet the newest little Emerys and to spend time with the rest of her grandchildren.
It must be a magical time for the whole family. I wish them all the best, and will try to be patient.

Patience is a virtue. I’ve never been virtuous.

As long as we’re getting great pics of Stephen, I will attempt to be patient. I’d love to see Anna, though.

Well I guess it’s unanimous… raises hand.. awful here. I am dying to know more about the babies.
It is some degree of consolation to see all these marvelous photos of Stephen.
Wondering if the babies are still not home given the photos of AP on her fan site today. She does not look happy.. hope she’s just irritated with the photographers.

I wonder if Grandma is in town helping them get ready for the babies to come home… I hope they are doing okay, since even babies doing well in the NICU are still stressful on parents.
I agree, SnA that AP doesn’t look to happy in those pics, although I’d think it has more to do with the paps that I’m sure are following them both around like crazy trying to get the “scoop” She does look pretty fantastic for just having twins… but it’s really not cool that paparazzi are able to harass her at the hospital… those places have security for a reason!

I went to Anna’s fan site and looked at the pictures. Okay, here’s what I’m thinking: 1. Anna looks really good. 2. If she is a Cedars then the babies are most likely still there. 3. If the babies are still there, that’s all she has on her mind and as SnA mentioned the paps with their clicking cameras are a total annoyance. 4. I can’t imagine how ready she must be to get the babies home so that they can begin to establish some kind of routine. I just hope and pray that that the babies are truly well and remain in the NICU just until they gain the appropriate amount of weight. Since we don’t know how premature the babies were, it could be a while yet barring any complications. My prayers are with Anna, Stephen and the babies.

I can’t even begin to imagine how difficult it would be have to leave your little ones, not be able to have them home with you. The rational part of me says SM wouldn’t be out & about and smiling if there was trouble.. and I do agree, she looks fabulous (but then shs looked amazing her whole pregnancy) it was a little unsettling to see her looking distressed. You guys are right of course.

From what I understand, the babies are fine and will be released when they reach a proper weight. 5 lbs is the goal. Keep in mind that babies lose some weight after birth, so the kids have to gain their birth weight back, plus a bit more.

tabby we are all with you….this is just a sensitive time for Steve and Anna and they will let us know when they are ready.
Comment by callonmebill — October 2, 2012 @ 11:25 am
you won’t see a baby for some time, they were very early and are not going home or facing a lense for some time. weight, immune system, lungs , brain, possible infections….they are protected in neonat emergecy service and are working hard on getting well before first meeting their extended family and their new digs….and then only…..later…. their fans! so: huge positive thoughts for theses 2 tiny babies, get well and home soon.

Every NICU has different requirements for when babies are ready to be discharged (although there is, of course standardization across the board) actual weight is less important than feeding, maintaining temp, etc. but some hospitals do have a ‘weight’ rule…
From what I’ve seen, the waiting for them to finally be ready to come home is always the worst part for most parents, especially in the NICU setting, because one little thing being off (a low temp, a large bout of spitting up, a day without gaining weight) can start a cascade of tests and delays and worries which are always frustrating for parents (and doctors too.. since we want babies to get better and go home!)
So while we are all wishing for a little more news, it’s very easy to understand why they are keeping things to themselves and fighting for whatever semblance of privacy they can get when they’re being stalked by the paps…

That’s lots of good information, Shel. Both of my babies were full term, good birth weights and healthy and I still managed to worry a lot. I can only imagine how Anna, as a first time mom is more that a little concerned about her little ones. It looks like Steve is holding down the fort at home and trying to keep things normal for Lilac. Such is parenting.
