Rutina Wesley Sings Stephen Moyer’s Praises

Rutina Wesley was recently interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine and provided some insight into Tara’s transformation into vampire in season five.  She was also asked about Stephen Moyer’s direction of the July 29th episode of True Blood and had this to say:

He did amazing! He’s so lovely. It was nice to work with somebody that you know so closely and see that person live out another part of their dream, and see him do it so well. He was such a sweetheart to me and he was just open and made us feel very safe. It was just like family.

And when asked about Alan Ball giving up his duty as showrunner next season and whether that will affect the show, Rutina stated:

I think Alan set up a really good network of writers and we have a good foundation. Who knows, everyone has different ideas, so things may change, but I think we would always be moving forward in the spirit as if Alan was still there. He’ll be around, but it’s just more sad that his presence is gone. We’re gonna miss him, because his writing is amazing and he is amazing and I feel like I owe my career to him. He gave me this opportunity and – I start to cry – it means a lot to me. I told him that if I hadn’t gotten this job, I wouldn’t be where I am now.

    1. Rutina comes across as such a down to earth woman! The comments that she makes about Steve, followed by the appreciative words she says about AB are lovely. Good for her and her recent success!

I’ve really enjoyed reading all of the cast members’ positive comments about Steve and his directing debut! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I can’t wait to see Sunday’s episode!

    2. I think it is absolutely lovely that this entire cast speaks so highly not only of Steve, but also of each other. That is so rare in the cutthroat competitiveness of show business. I can’t help but think that Steve’s, Anna’s and AB’s leadership deserves the credit. I am so proud to be a fan of TB and of Steve.

    3. Tabby, did you listen to the commentary for S4E6? Greg Fienberg just praises Steve and Anna as being such superb leads of the show. It was obvious at Comic Con how respected Steve is and everyone seemed so proud FOR him. While they’re all fantastic actors, they cannot pretend to get along as well as they obviously seem to! They really are the greatest cast on television, imo!

    4. It’s so true. This is an exceptional group of actors, writers, directors, production staff, and crew.
I think Alan Ball set the tenor when he started the whole series, and Stephen and Anna took his lead and carried it forward in the day-to-day work environment.
It’s a credit to them that it’s worked so well for so long!

Rutina is always generous and sweet in her interviews, and it’s plain to see she really likes and respects Stephen, and his directing talents. Nice words from her, and all the cast, for Stephen!

    5. I find Rutina to be a genuinely lovely, warm, intelligent and talented young woman. Her interview was sweet and spot on with its wonderful praise for Stephen and Alan.
I hope only the best for her future professionally and in her personal life.
One things for sure, she has a great family in True Blood. They all have amazing chemistry and respect for each other.

BTW, that was a great commentary SOD.

    6. So glad everyone appreciates Stephen!

So sad that AB has kind of flown the coop! His presence will still be felt, I am sure.

    7. This is such a wonderful cast and crew. Would that we all could have such a positive experience with those we work with! Rutina is so sweet, and has tons of talent, to boot. And Lizzie, I too will miss Alan Ball, I have been a huge fan since I saw Six Feet Under and American Beauty. I hope TB follows his vision. And SoD, I can hardly wait to see Episode 8 on Sunday…I share your enthusiasm.
