Alan Ball Discusses “Transformed” Bill

Alan Ball did a post mortem interview with Michael Ausiello of TVLine, where he discussed Bill’s transformation into…whatever the fuck he transformed into.  Here are the Bill-related highlights:

TVLINE | So, is Bill God now?

I don’t want to say if he is or he isn’t. Who’s to say what Lilith really is? He is still Bill but he is something different.

TVLINE | So there is some of the old Bill in there?

It is Bill, but it is a transformed Bill. He is not a completely new person. It’s not like his memories or his experiences have been left out and he’s just a baby.

TVLINE | Can he revert back to the old Bill?

Well, that’s the question: Is he going to be evil? What does he want? What is he going to do? Will he be able to revert back to Bill? That’s for future seasons. The implication, certainly, is that he is more ferocious.

TVLINE | With Bill heading into Big Bad territory next season, does that make Eric now the hero of True Blood?

Remains to be seen. They’ve both been heroes in their own way. Eric was kind of like a mischievous cad, but I don’t think he was ever, like, a true villain the way that Russell was or the way that Maryann was. And he’s done a lot of really heroic things himself. So I never really looked at Eric as the bad guy and Bill as the good guy – at least not since the very early seasons. But it remains to be seen what will go down with both of them.

    1. good interview from AB. Lots of changes coming for Bill, and I for one am not dreading it, I’m looking forward to it.

And I do agree with AB about how he sees Eric and Bill, after AE in S4, Eric definitely changed into a vampire who grew to like and respect Bill, and their relationship got even more closer in S5. Eric was almost as devastated as Sookie when they saw him die.

AB knows how to shock his audience, no doubt about that.

    2. I’m just glad that Bill is still Bill to a certain extent… those of you who ever watched the Angel spinoff from Buffy know what happend to Fred, and I spent all night fearing that for Bill.. that he would just be gone, and be a completely new thing…

So knowing that he still has his memories and experiences gives me hope… and a little bit of ferociousness might do him some good :P

The one good thing this whole lilith mess did for Bill was push him to make a stand and get what he wants for once instead of letting other more stronger/older vamps walk all over him. Bill isn’t a victim anymore. I wish it would have happened a different way, but we’ll make do… we always manage to survive whatever they throw at us.

    3. So Billith might not be a victim anymore but I can’t foresee is any believable way for this “creature” (of whatever he is) to make sense…

I too wanted Bill to come into his own, but this is so lame! Essentially he’s become RE on steroids! How if that gonna be watchable? :(

Yes, Stephen is one of the few actors capable of pulling off such an incredible and dramatic character shift, (if this was happening to Eric wouldn’t be at all compelling of a storyline)

But fundamentally, this is going to be a bitch to keep from turning this series into one of those bad, “Jumping the Shark” TV shows.

Bill may have risen from a pool of blood, but there was a pretty large dorsal fin in the pool behind him! :P

      Bummer dudes. :(

    4. WW, the thing with this show is that if the writers decide to make something so, they will. So, next season, if they decide to make Bill good, they will. I’m trying to put it all into perspective, but I’m pretty irritated.

    5. I will take Billith any which way. I am happy that Steve has such a meaty role!
