We’re pleased to announce that we’re joining The Vault and All Stephen Moyer in a charity fund raising drive to support Facing the Atlantic!
Facing the Atlantic is “race in a two man rowing boat across the Atlantic from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to English Harbour in Antigua, the West Indies, to raise £300,000 (about $480,000 U.S.) for the charity Facing the World. This figure includes funding for Facing the Atlantic.’

An unsupported and totally self sufficient race of 2,500 nautical miles departs from La Gomera in December. Entrants must deal not only with 50ft waves, oil tankers and sharks but tackle the very limits of their physical and mental fitness.”
Facing the World co-founder, Martin Kelly, was dedicated to helping children with severe facial disfigurements who cannot be treated in their home countries. He died suddenly two years ago, leaving behind his wife, actress Natascha McElhone (“Californication”) and their children. Steve and McElhone met and became friends while attending the London Academy for Music and the Dramatic Arts. Please watch the video Kelly narrated about the work of Facing the World:
The two men rowing that boat across the Atlantic are Bert Portal and James Cash. Portal is a close friend of Steve’s – best man at his wedding to Anna Paquin – an actor for 20 years most recently seen in “The King’s English,” and a close friend of Martin Kelly, co-founder of Facing the World. He undertakes this challenge to fulfill a promise made to Kelly. “This charity is close to my heart and 60 days of heightened physical and indeed mental danger is nothing compared to what these children go through.”

James Cash is a personal trainer with more than 10 years’ experience in marathons, triathlons, and long distance cycling. Facing the Atlantic is the biggest challenge he’s undertaken. Cash cites his reasons for participating: “It is a charity so worthy of support, the courage of these children puts us to shame.”
The race begins this December and we’ll tell you about many exciting opportunities for you to help raise money for this cause so near to Steve’s heart. There’ll be chances for you to get your hands on some great stuff in support of Facing the Atlantic.
